Wellington fl is known for its equestrian community and hosting equestrian and polo events. It is host to both the Winter Equestrian Festival and more than forty weeks of equestrian competitions per year. The newest show being the Global Dressage Festival. International competitors attend the equestrian events and social gatherings held in the community.
Wellington is considered the top International Equestrian destination for the various equestrian disciplines of show jumping, dressage, and polo. Wellington hosts multiple polo matches including the USPA Piaget Gold Cup and the Nespresso U.S. Polo Open at the Palm Beach International Polo Club.
The village has six elementary schools, three middle schools, and two High schools in this area. The majority of the time, children will be sent to the school that corresponds to the neighborhood the child lives in.
Wellington was originally the world’s largest strawberry patch, the Flying Cow Ranch. C. Oliver Wellington bought 18,000 acres of swampland in the 1950s that eventually would be called the Village of Wellington. Wellington is far from its origins as a swampy backwater. Compared to its glamorous neighbor Palm Beach twenty minutes to the east, Wellington today quietly draws a wealthy cross-section of international society, celebrity, and business personalities who consider it a required destination for their equestrian pursuits.
Wellington has a multiple recreation centers, Aquatics Complex, and a number of public parks and ball fields. The Wellington Amphitheater regularly hosts musical and film events in their outdoor venue. There are a number of entertainment and cultural venues – such as the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts, Lake Worth Playhouse, and the Norton Museum of Art. Wellington has a large regional mall The Mall at Wellington Green, along with a many other nationally known retailers located in outdoor shopping venues along the major commercial highways. World class beaches are a half hour’s drive time, due east, to the Palm Beaches. From Wellington, one can access Fort Lauderdale less than one hour away or travel to South Beach approximately a one and half hour’s drive.
There are many nearby social scenes, restaurants, and shops in the Wellington area to satisfy anyone looking for an enjoyable and fun time. From the Blue Martini, one of the most sophisticated bars in all of Palm Beach to fine fashion cuisine at Olis, The Coach House, or the Seahorse.
Many celebrities either have seasonal homes here or live here all year long, including great actors such as Tommy Lee Jones and Glenn Close, former baseball great Sammy Sosa, and musicians Bruce Springsteen and Vanilla Ice. New York mayor Michael Bloomberg also has a residence in Wellington. The weather in Wellington is perfect. You can enjoy outdoor activities all year long. It never gets too cold, a main reason why Wellington has become a primary place for northern travelers during the winter.
